After four consecutive years of growing investment volumes, the first half (H1) of 2020 saw a significant effect from the COVID-19 pandemic on Montreal investment market activity, causing a 12.3% decrease of investment sales in monetary terms.

Montreal multifamily, office and industrial were the top 3 asset types drawing investors’ attention in H1 2020, with a combined share of 82.2% of the total investment volume.

Retail assets saw the largest decrease Y-o-Y both in sales volume and number of transactions, with 38.1% and 34.8% decline respectively.
