Population growth projections indicate that by 2050 Portugal will have the largest elderly proportion in Europe, and a dependency ratio that reveals that there will be one and a half persons at working age for each elderly person.

Despite being one of the countries with the highest average life expectancy in Europe, it is also where the number of years of healthy senior life is shorter, a situation that is worsened by the fact that there are more and more people living alone and without a care alternative within the family.

These factors alert for the necessity of a set of healthcare and accommodation structures that meet the different needs that may arise throughout the life of an elderly person, whether during the healthy period of life or when nursing or medical care become essential.

Aware of the scarcity of a decent offer for the elderly, CBRE developed the present study that aims to draw attention to the attractiveness of the healthcare and senior living sector in Portugal.
